Plinky.com asked me what's the funniest movie I've ever seen.
Airplane. Hands down, without a doubt, no other movie comes close.
I howled with laughter when I saw it in the cinema as a kid (several times) and it just got better every time I saw it – even though I knew all the jokes, they became like old friends or comfortable shoes – a joy in which to partake all over again.
What makes it so funny? A few things:
Gags per minute – I don't think there are many films or television shows that managed such a torrent of high-quality gags.
Great performances – Just everyone giving it their all and staying true to the script/intent.
Quotability – Gags that stayed on the tip of your tongue like the best of Monty Python.
Yup, I'll take on anyone who claims any movie is funnier than Airplane. Surely I can't be serious? Yes, I can… and don't call me Shirley…
