Words: On a train to NYC

On a train to NYC
A long time
since I made this journey last
Towns rush by
Commuter ignorance
The human crowd
Alone
Together
Alone
Stop here, stop there
People drift through
constellations
Might I know you
might we have met?
What might we discover
were we to take the time
step across boundaries
embracing the difference
that keeps us indifferent?
Oh, how I’ve missed you
unknown stranger
I’ve lost you
before we’ve even
spoken a word
These chance collisions
the stuff of life
At the end of this journey
the train disgorges
and I step into
Remorse
mourning
the arms of friends
Smiles
Hugs
Love

All this time
we travel
Alone
Together
Alone
Sometimes it takes
a path revisited
to show
we’re just the same
yet totally new
