You and the cat

You look at this gorgeous feline, yowling at the door to be let out into the night.

You think of the parade of dead voles, chipmunks, mice and birds that have greeted you on the doorstep most mornings for the past couple of years.

You smile at this feline, who just a few moments ago was lying on the couch, deigning to allow you to run your hands through his magnificent pelt.

You think: underneath all that fluff is a lethal machine.

You open the door and watch him slink into the darkness, a grey movement within shadows.
