Words: So you ran

So you ran
These horizons
offered solace
and you bolted
like a blue streak
from some
hoodoo
voodoo man’s
curse
Beseeching
anyone who’d listen
that we knew the truth
long before
we let lies
cover in clouds
and misery
the joy of
unsanctioned
unconditional
love

So you ran
each step a
tiny statement
Willful intent
on freedom
Arching your back
Howling at the stars
Tar pitch blanket
Varicose moon
Out onto the land
you ran
each step
a pounding rhythm
to your heart
lungs beating
Eager only
for blissful
emptiness
fulfilled in a stranger’s
kiss

So you ran
As moonlight
dappled you
naked
Unashamed
fleeing into
open space
arms outstretched
to gather
sheer moments
in sheet
upon sheet
of cleansing
liberation
Captured
in still frame
completion
You ran
and ran
and ran
