Words: In line at Starbucks

Look at you
Mountain range
jagged teeth
Seething to be
placated
Caffeinated
Buzzing
Awake

This time
Each moment
you let flow
past open hands
Anticipating
the living you’d live
if only you were
alive

Do you see each other?
Each breath and
beat of heart
Do you feel
radiance
beauty
within reach?
Not this drowning
over-sweet
stimulant
narcotic

What is it
to live in
experience?
In a foreign heartbeat?
A broken silence?
These stimulants
They
know
not
love

[This is an extract from my new screenplay, spoken by Mikey Baker while he sketches the line of people waiting in line at Starbucks]
