Sparse by Vincent TuckwoodFEBRUARY 6th, 2013 (WATERFORD, CT) — View Beyond is pleased to announce Sparse, the new record by Vincent Tuckwood, a Brit-transplant who has come to rest in Waterford, CT. Sparse features twelve original songs, each building from a base of acoustic guitar and voice, layering additional instruments to build a soundscape of both intimacy and strength.

Known for compelling and personal live shows, Tuckwood has long pursued what he describes as the ‘loudest of whispers’. Has he achieved it here? “It’s been a fine balancing act to make sure Sparse lives up to its name,” Tuckwood admits. “And I think it really does. There’s an openness and transparency to these recordings.” As a result, Sparse is already drawing favorable comparisons with artists such as Elliott Smith, Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley. “People keep using the word ‘honest’, and it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Conceived as the first half of a two record project, Sparse was recorded with Eric Lichter at Dirt Floor Recording Studios, Chester, CT in late-2012.  A sister release, Dense, is scheduled for late-2013.

“I was blessed to be able to work with Eric and record Sparse at Dirt Floor,” Tuckwood says, “it’s an environment that helped me live up to my commitment to sing these songs the way I want to sing them.” Lichter agrees: “This is a great record, top-notch song-writing, with a distinctly British heritage, and then Vince’s voice, which has this amazing blend of vulnerability and power.”

Alongside Lichter, Sparse includes guest appearances by Josi Davis ( and John Fries (
