I came to
believe
I was larger-than-life
I swelled
beyond the stage
beyond the hall
beyond the walls
Containing it all

into black night
while my body tumbled
end over
I landed
with a thud
Nose-dived off the stage
Rapturous ovations
cut short
staring up the skirt
of a girl playing recorder
Watching all this from the sky
far above
larger-than-life
Audience sharp-intaking
breath
clutched pearls
Is he all right

HE is up here watching and listening
to you all
All of you
HE knows the pain
will come
but right now
HE is cavorting with clouds
galloping with galaxies
Floating high-above
outside
without
within
his 10-year old body
HE is playful
HE is joyful
HE is funny
HE is ME
and HE is LARGER-THAN-LIFE
