I built this perimeter to keep them out
to place the world at bay
to distance myself
cocooned, luxuriating
in self-imposed
certainty
On closed-circuit monitors I watched
as they gathered at the walls
desperate to gain entry
any insight into
what happens
within
The exterior of the walls scratched, pitted
scarred by their foolish attempts
blood smear stains
their torn nails
scrabbling in
futility
Within, my own calm centre holding true
Watching their hope dwindle away
They could not reach me
Become little more than
camera caught
distractions
Until one day I spotted it high in the air
Little more than speck on screen
Yet there it was, clear
Above the walls
it waited
focused
“They have found a way!” I yelled to no-one
Tumultuous rage fit only
for my ears alone
“They did it…”
a sigh alone
“finally…”
I am breached
I am rendered
I am opened
I am defiled
Above the skyline
a single drone
hovering
watching
From the prompt: “Above the skyline, a single drone hovered, watching.”
Leave me a prompt and I’ll write you a little something 🙂
