SETTLE
Do you care for that
for which you’ll settle?
What you’ll give up
for fear of never having?
Do you care
for the mortgage?
This roof over your head?
Yours some time
but not quite yet
Do you care
for the hours
plugged in and wired
Serving corporate masters
Marching in step
So available
so very ‘Yes’
Do you care
that your life
is compromised and draining?
That you’re climbing ever higher
for no reason
you can tell
Do you care
for dreams
buried so long ago?
Or slowly eroded
in seconds, minutes, hours
That child-you
dancing
singing
painting
finding friends
A million tiny choices
nailing
her coffin lid
Do you care
if your tomorrow
betters your today?
Do you settle for another day
of ticking
death-row
clocks?
Do you settle?
Have you settled?
Have you settled
for a myth?
For a legend?
For stories
someone told you
were the way things had to be?
Have you settled
for a life
that leaves you
shrivelling?
Have you settled?
How about not settling
’til happiness flows easy
’til who you are
and who you love
is all you’ll ever need
Making joy for others
the only calling
you will follow
Being all you’re meant to be
and judged in your eyes
only
When things and stuff
and happenstance
don’t tell you right from wrong
in from out
good from bad
When you’ve realized
that ‘just enough’
brings happiness
more than ‘more’
How about not settling
’til happiness flows easy
’til who you are
and who you love
is all you’ll ever need?
How about not settling?

I love to write in a moment, and I love to write for you, so please leave me a prompt in the comments – a word, a sentence, an image – and I’ll write you a little something.
Also, sometimes, my writing helps someone I don’t know – I can’t predict or plan for that, and I’m humbled when I hear it’s happened – all I can do is ask you to share my writing, and increase the chances that it gets to the person who may need it.
Thank you for reading, as always!
