A quick Friday reflection on how things are going here at vincet.net – back on March 31st, I posted Bored Again and committed to a number of threads of work, all of which have progressed
[there’s a lesson here for anyone who is prone to procrastination or avoidance of the muse – that to which we commit, happens]
In no particular order, here’s what’s been happening.
Virus Child
Now, this came along by complete accident – I found myself working on an instrumental one night in the studio and a) really enjoyed myself and liked the track; and b) felt that it captured some element of how I was feeling in the midst of self-isolation.
That first track soon swelled to an EP – it’s at 6 tracks so far and still growing – the last couple included vocals. Click the image to go take a listen. Let me know what you think!
Rufus – A novel in progress
Earlier this week the 20th chapter of Rufus published – and that’s where things stand for now. I’ve had some lovely feedback, so it seems at least one or two people have valued reading about that our wandering troubadour and the weird little town in the mist. Part of my posting the novel in progress was to see if I could reconnect with the story
[I’d lost the thread a few years back]
and I think, in a way, I did. Don’t know yet that it’s become magnetic for me… But I do find myself wondering, asking questions, playing “what if…” with myself – which is a good sign.
I do like a lot of the writing in here, and I think my conscious mind had been getting in the way of diving deep into the muse of the story.
Have you read it?
Unfinished Business
Even though Virus Child has taken front place in my music these past few weeks, I also put out all the current mixes for the next record – and, as I work on them, I’m keeping them updated here. There are 11 tracks so far, and I’m gradually chipping away at them.
A Business Book
I don’t often post about business here – they are two very distinct parts of my life. That said, I’m really happy with how Project Management For Human Resources has turned out. The official launch is next Tuesday, and I’m looking forward to seeing the book out in the world.
Book Cover Revamp
As I’ve gone about readying my most recent book, I’ve taken a deeper dive into advertising for books and, as I looked at examples out in the world, it brought to focus that the covers for Family Rules and Do Sparrows Eat Butterflies? didn’t really make me happy. Particularly because they seem to be the ones that people tell me are their favorites of my novels.
So, I redesigned them and they’re making their way through the publishing process at the moment.
I’m really happy with how they turned out – and they feel more of-a-piece with Escalation and Karaoke Criminals now. Take a look at my novels page to see what I mean.
Most Popular Pages
So, it’s been a busy, busy time here at #HeavyFolkNoise, and I’m feeling good about the time and content. I wish more people listened and read, but I appreciate those who do much more than I worry about those that don’t.
One little thing, that’s not so little, is that I completely moved all my content here – which included a revamp of the look and feel of the site – so, over time, this is the only place where new content will appear. It works for me, and for those who listen and read, and that’s all that matters in the end.
Since March 31st, I’ve doubled visitors to the site
[which may sound grand, but I’m definitely “niche” – I only get a handful of visitors a day]
The most viewed page is Virus Child (54) followed by Rufus (33), although only 10 people at most have actually looked at the individual chapters, so the number doesn’t look quite so rosy.
Then, the next two pages are guitar related at 15 each, which is interesting because I never tell anyone about them – they just turn up on search for people based on the guitar name – they’re actually the most viewed content on my site.
Now, I’m going to stop talking about numbers, because they can lead me to a dark place about not being read or listened to. And I don’t like that place.
Summing up
I’ve really enjoyed these past few weeks and am quite happy with everything that’s been released. I also have the energy to move on to the next thing… Which is a big part of what I wanted to get from this experiment.
I’ll see you on the next page, and in the next song.
Love-peace-trust,
