Velvet dusk settles across the bay
Easy tides trickle back and forth
Mozzies coming going
Whining attention at my ear
Summer flower scents suffuse humid air
courting perfumes and after shave
Heady crowds heading out
courting for real
Starlight pins prick dark heavens
A hint of other worlds calling
Ancestral yet futuristic
Adrift in the void
Waves less than ripples hiss over sand
Salt in my mouth
of the sea
of her skin
To be swimming through depths
All dark all enclosing
Pressure building
eliminating choice
What sharks may emerge to rend
Out of the darkness
All teeth and dead eyes
Last sight but blood
Our quiet pension dim curtained windows
As day disappeared
behind mountain ridges
breath and ennui
Sunburnt we dressed in silent avoidance
tired of this riviera dream
so, so tired
of each other
What is left when the heat is gone
when the evening cavalcade
waits for others
passing us by?
Velvet dusk settles across the bay
I head back inside
Wondering just what
she would have me say
From the prompt “velvet dusk”.
Leave me a prompt and I’ll write you a little something 🙂
