Words: Of clouds and cold kisses

By November 5, 2010Poems

These days wear thin
Not space enough
for breath nor body
nor saving face
Cold evening comes
Its kisses
light with fog
Misty-eyed
steps through the gloom
Breathing
just breathing
Only just
remembering
to breathe
remembering
a day when blossomed
fullness
eased a soothing touch
across the sky
in tufted light
The grass soft
beneath
the exuberant sun
and calmness
as I counted clouds
Naming every one
an animal
a memory
Visions
of vapour made

I grew
too wide
too deep
too full
to be contained
by any
sanguine day

Yet now constrained
night at my face
reversed
I long to expand
once more
into ripeness
fulfillment
expression
so much wider
than my being
louder
than my words

No, evening
rest a little
you shall not hold me
in crushing embrace
Your cold kisses
are no match
for my sun

Let me know what you think?
