I don’t know who needs
to read this
right now
but you will know

Because right now
you feel that your
words
don’t make a difference

That this page
that is filling
sometimes slowly
sometimes in avalanche

Will not reach
another person
who might read you
and gain

Wonder
Insight
Laughter
Woe

Your fear
that your words
carry little
meaning

Weighs heavy
today
a concrete
necklace

So you pause
hold back
thoughts
and words

For fear
of being
ignored
again

Write anyway
write
write
WRITE!

Someone
somewhere
needs your
words

Someone
somewhere
who is
reading

Will one day
tell you
how you
changed their life

And you will know
your writing
made that
difference

The words
you wrote
without caring
without trying

The words
that flew
so easy
and quick

Published
in the blink
of the universe’s
eye

Switch off
the judge
jury
executioner

Their critique
is hollow
self-abusive
bullshit

You’re a writer
because
you write
just that

Because
you
write
So WRITE!

This was written because I came across another cut and paste meme on Facebook that started with “I don’t know who needs to hear this…” and, as ever, it was good stuff, well-intentioned… yet, something hollow and meaningless in its generic offer.

And, like car bumper stickers, it mostly served as a reflection back to the person posting – they were the person most likely to need to hear what they were posting.

So, an idle thought later, I started writing and the above bounced out.

And, of course, I needed to read it as much as you.

I too write into the void with hope

(and with sometimes flickering intent)

I too write because I have no choice…

No, wait. That’s wrong. There’s always choice. Write or don’t write.

I’ve been blocked before

(the longest for over 5 years before Do Sparrows Eat Butterflies? tumbled from the muse)

and so have made that choice.

More recently, I’m back to writing most days of the week, and I’m feeling the better for the exercise.

So, if you’re blocked, denying or avoiding, I offer the above in the hope that you’ll find your own path through the mountains and write again.

Let me know what you think?
