At age 13
I made a big decision
of course
at the time
I didn’t realize
just how big
that decision
would turn out to  be
of course

At age 13
my decision
drew a map
complete
save for
individual steps
corners on
the path
for sure

At age 13
I knew
simply knew
the destination
that lay
along my map
charted
detailed
clear

30 years
later
as great a
fast forward
as ever
likely
to be
I was lost

13 year old me
yelled
“I gave you a map!
how could you be lost?
Did you lose it?
Drop it
by the wayside?
What?”

“Don’t worry”
I said to
my little me
“I still have
your map
snuggled
deep in my
jacket pocket
safe”

“But here’s the thing
I never wanted
your path
not really
if you’re honest
neither did you
not really
right?”

“I may be lost
but it’s by choice
who has time
for pre-planned
journeys
known destinations
pristine paths
zero jeopardy?”

“Little me”
I whispered with love
“you weren’t
to know
I didn’t lose
the map
I just stopped
looking at it!”

From the prompt “I didn’t lose the map… I just stopped looking at it”.

Leave me a prompt and I’ll write you a little something 🙂

Let me know what you think?
